The invention relates to a method for producing polyamide-6 by hydrolytic polymerization of epsilon -caprolactam. According to the inventive method, a ring fission of caprolactam takes place in a first step, under the influence of water, and in subsequent steps a polycondensation at low temperatures and water-free conditions is carried out.
