PURPOSE: An apparatus is provided to be capable of improving a contrast by performing a selective reset discharging so as to make a dark portion much darker. CONSTITUTION: In a reset period, with a constant voltage being applied to a sustain electrode, the first reset pulse is applied to a scan electrode(Y) and then the second reset pulse is applied to the scan electrode. The first reset pulse has a waveform of an increasing lamp pulse, and the second reset pulse has a waveform of a decreasing lamp pulse. The constant voltage is equal to or higher than a sustain voltage. The waveform of the first reset pulse increases linearly, exponentially or logarithmically, and the waveform of the second reset pulse decreases linearly, exponentially or logarithmically.
