A flat dosage form is based on a water-soluble polymer matrix which contains spaces or cavities of differing volume depending on the state of aggregation of the matrix. An especially flat dosage form, which disintegrates or dissolves rapidly in an aqueous environment and which is used for the rapid release of active agents in the oral cavity, body openings or body cavities, comprises a water-soluble polymer matrix which contains active agent(s) and which is provided with spaces or cavities of differing volume depending on the state of aggregation of the matrix. An independent claim is also included for the preparation of the dosage form.
