METHOD OF RESTORING PERFORMANCE OF GAS DIFFUSION ELECTRODE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restore the performance of a gas diffusion electrode for brine electrolysis when the degradation in the electrode performance occurs as a result of continuous use of this gas diffusion electrode. SOLUTION: The performance of the gas diffusion electrode degraded in the electrode performance after use for electrolysis in making caustic soda is restored by cleaning the gas diffusion electrode by using water and/or an acid and removing the alkaline component occurring in the caustic soda in the gas diffusion electrode. The overvoltage of the electrode which is deteriorated in the electrode performance and increased in the overvoltage on successive continuation of operation is restored nearly to the overvoltage in the beginning of the operation.
