PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an EL (electroluminescence) display device having a satisfactory contrast. SOLUTION: In this EL display device, two lines of pixel rows are selected by applying an ON-voltage to gate signal lines. Programmed currents are outputted from a source signal line 18 to be programmed in selected write pixel rows 871a, 871b. Then, a picture is written in an entire display area by successively shifting write pixel rows. A dummy pixel row 2471 is selected at the low side part of a display area 21. Since EL film screens are not formed in the dummy pixel row, the row does not emit rays of light. Moreover, since the dummy pixel row is selected at the lower side of the picture, a current flowing through the source line 18 can be made constant. As a result, the black float of the picture is not generated in the device and a satisfactory contrast can be realized in the device. |
