PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute a printing operation to the end of a printing paper without having ink droplets impact on a platen. SOLUTION: A platen 26 of the printer comprises an upstream side supporting part 26sf, a groove part 26f and a downstream side supporting part 26sr from the upstream side in the sub scanning direction. According to the printer, a printing operation is executed for the upper end part of a printing paper only with a nozzle group Nh facing the groove part 26f, and it is executed for the lower end part of the printing paper only with a second nozzle group Nh facing the groove part 26f. Furthermore, during a printing operation for the upper end part and the middle part, an upper end transitional process for executing a printing operation using all the nozzle groups is executed as in the middle part, with the same feeding operation in the sub scanning direction as in the upper end part. Moreover, during a printing operation for the middle part and the lower end part, a lower end transitional process for executing a printing operation using all the nozzle groups is executed, with the same feeding operation in the sub scanning direction as in the lower end part. By executing the transitional processes, the upper end process, the middle process, and the lower end process can be carried out smoothly without the need of a backward sub scanning operation.
