METHOD FOR PRODUCING POLYETHYLENE TEREPHTHALATE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyethylene terephthalate having various excellent properties by using bis(2-hydroxyethyl)terephthalate as a starting raw material. SOLUTION: Free ethylene glycol is removed from the system as fast as possible at the initial stage of the polycondensation reaction for suppressing the formation of diethylene glycol by the direct or indirect reaction of the hydroxyethyl ester group of the bis(2-hydroxyethyl)terephthalate with ethylene glycol. The content of diethylene glycol in the polyethylene terephthalate can be reduced by this method to obtain a polyethylene terephthalate having high quality.
