PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination device which can direct a light beam to an object field at a variable angle and then can evade the defects of conventional technology. SOLUTION: A (stereoscopic) microscope for surgery operations is equipped with the illumination insertion incidence part. At the illumination insertion incidence part, an illumination beam path (5) is inserted into the main beam path of the microscope through a deflecting element (1) and made incident. The diameter of the polarizing element is larger than the interval of an observation beam path (3). Various different illumination angles of an object (10) are obtained by a stop (8) which can shift radially around the axis (5a) of the illumination beam path (5).
