PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer with a reduced width size by having the plate thickness of an engaging member for pivoting a platen roller on a side plate same as or smaller than the plate thickness of the side plate, for disposing the engaging member within the plate thickness range of the side plate. SOLUTION: A platen roller 2 of the thermal printer comprises a rotation shaft 3 to be pivoted rotatably on a frame 1. The rotation shaft 3 can be pivoted by a pivoting part 1b of a pair of side plats 1a formed in the frame 1. The pivoting part 1b is formed in a substantially U-shape with one end side opened. An engaging member 6 is provided for pressuring from the end side the rotation shaft 3 mounted on the pivoting part 1b via a bearing 3a for preventing fall off from the pivoting part 1b. The plate thickness of the engaging member 6 is provided same as or smaller than the plate thickness of the side plate 1a so that the engaging member 6 is disposed within the plate thickness range of the side plate 1a.
