FIELD: petrochemical processes. SUBSTANCE: impurities are removed from aromatic materials by treating initial aromatic material characterized by low diene content. Initial material is brought into contact with active acidic catalytic composition under conditions adequate to remove monoolefins. Aromatic material can be preliminarily freed of dienes when in contact with clay, hydrogenation or hydrofining catalyst under conditions adequate to remove essential part of dienes but not monoolefins.
