PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an organic compound by addition or substitution reaction or the like under a mild condition at a high selectivity and in a high yield. SOLUTION: The catalyst for producing an organic compound is provided, which is constituted by an imide based compound having an N-substituted cyclic imide skeleton represented by formula (1) (wherein R represents a protective group of a hydroxy group; and n represents 0 or 1); and an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal-containing compound. Preferably R is a hydrolizable protective group, and may be, for example, a group in which an OH group is removed from an acid such as a carboxylic acid, sulfonic acid, carbonic acid, carbamic acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acid and boric acid. The catalyst may further include a transition metal compound. An addition or substitution reaction product or a derivative thereof can be produced by reacting (A) a compound capable of producing a free radical with (B) a free radical-capturing compound in the presence of the above catalyst. |
