PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic endoscope, which can be used for a long time by an internal power source by reducing power consumption. SOLUTION: In the electronic endoscope provided with an image pickup means for providing an electronic image and a power source for driving the image pickup means, the endoscope is equipped with a power feeding switching means between the power source and the image pickup means for turning on/off power feeding from the power source to the image pickup means, a detection means for detecting the states of using and unusing the electronic endoscope, and a control means for feeding power through the power feeding switching means to the image pickup means when the result detected by the detection means presents the using state but for cutting off power feeding to the image pickup means by the power feeding switching means when the result presents the unusing state.
