PURPOSE: A user authentication method and system is provided to enable a user to access a contents providing server by passing a user authentication via an MAC(Media Access Control) and an IP address. CONSTITUTION: The system comprises an LAN card(101), an SSL(Secure Socket Layer) server(111), an authentication data transmitter(102), an IP security server(112), and an ID authentication server(113). The LAN card(101) transmits a stored encoded log-in ID and MAC address to a network by making a user computer access the network. The SSL server(111) receives the encoded data from the LAN card(101), and authenticates the ID of the LAN card(101) according to an encoding algorithm. The authentication data transmitter(102) transmits authentication data to the SSL server(111) via the LAN card(101) according to the authentication request of the SSL server(102). The IP security server(112) checks whether the IP of the user computer, having passed the authentication procedure, is included in an allowed band. The ID authentication server(113) allows the user computer to be linked to other web site by authenticating the ID which has been passed at the IP security server(112).
