PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the recording and playback of a disk to be treated in a disk simple body by a recording and playback apparatus for a disk cartridge by enabling the attachment and detachment of an optical disk having a diameter smaller than the optical disk of a standard size to and from the cartridge. SOLUTION: The cartridge is provided with a cartridge main body 2 formed by butting a lower shell 7 having an opening part 24 for recording/playback to an upper shell 6 having a loading slot 2a for the optical disk 3 of a small diameter, a center shell 4 rotatably housed in the cartridge main body 2 and having an opening part 44 corresponding to the opening part 24, and shutter members 5a and 5b which are attached to the center shell 4 so as to be located at the lower shell 7 side and open the opening part 24 and the opening part 44 when the center shell 4 is rotated and the opening part 24 coincides with the opening part 44. A disk housing part 11a is provided with a disk holding part 11b to rotatably hold the optical disk 3.
