PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture processor which makes it easy to confirm display contents and is excellent in usability or the like, and to provide a method for controlling its display devices. SOLUTION: The picture processor comprises at least one display device 28 provided with backlight, and at least one display device 54 not provided with backlight. The picture processor is also provided with a display change- over control means for the display contents of the display device 54 without backlight on the display device 28 with backlight. The picture processor is further provided with an illumination detection means for detecting illumination of a photographing environment, and a decision means for deciding whether or not the change-over to the display device 28 with backlight is necessary. When the decision means decides that it is necessary to change over the display device, the control means controls so as to automatically display the display contents of the display device 54 without backlight on the display device with backlight.
