PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle occupant head detector of the type using image recognition, with excellent determining accuracy while simplifying its arrangement and process. SOLUTION: The detector determines an area with the greatest motion from a two-dimensional image of a seated occupant picked up with an area image sensor 1, thereby accurately and easily determining the occupant's head position.
