PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the distortion of image information such as letters at joints even if microscopic pixel dislocation occurs between split images to be joined together by an image processing apparatus and to reduce the time required to combine the images. SOLUTION: A threshold value is set at the brightness value of a pixel corresponding to the bed of a document (S23) and a pixel with brightness values equal to or greater than the threshold is detected along the direction in which detection of pixels proceeds; if no such a pixel is detected, the direction in which detection of pixels proceeds is changed to detect a pixel with brightness values equal to or greater than the threshold value. When the pixel is detected, the position of the pixel detected is set at the position of the mating ends of first and second split images (S24). Thus, the position of the mating end can be set at the position of the document bed where there is no image information, such as letters, and distortion of the image information such as letters can be prevented at the joint between the split images. |
