The roller bearing (18) is mounted using a method comprising the following steps: - (a) placing the shaft (1) in a vertical position with a flange (2) beneath the bearing; - (b) placing a first support (4) on top of the flange, providing additional supports (7, 9) above the first support, passing axial bolts through holes (3) in the flange and supports and mounting a ring (17) on the shaft above the flange; - (c) fixing a roller bearing onto the shaft, the bearing resting against the supports and ring, and providing a bearing casing (19) around the bearing, the casing being supported by the supports; - (d) passing bars (33) through holes in the flange which do not contain bolts, through the spaces between adjacent supports and into bores (21) in the bearing casing, in order to secure the latter to the flange; - (e) removing the supports and bolts; - (f) rotating the axle and bearing into a horizontal position; - (g) removing the bars; and - (h) mounting an end lock (6, 15) between the bearing casing and axle. |
