Strip winding and unwinding device with automatic centering

The invention relates to a device (12) for winding up and unwinding metal strips, used in particular for cold-rolling. This device has a spindle (21) which is mounted inside a hollow shaft and onto which the strip is wound; for this purpose the spindle is rotated by a motor (20) which actuates the hollow shaft by means of a mechanical transmission. In accordance with a preferred embodiment, the position of the hollow shaft along the axis of rotation may be adjusted by means of hydraulic actuators, in such a way as to compensate for any winding defects in the coil present on the spindle.
