A suction device comprises a skimmer (9) for suctioning off a foreign oil floating on a liquid or another floating liquid or dirty layer. The skimmer has a suction nozzle (24) which moves under its own weight from above against and into the liquid. The nozzle has an opening (26) which adjusts the level of the liquid layer to be removed in the suction region using the suction force and the gravitational force acting on it. Preferred Features: The suction nozzle is a straight nozzle tube which vertically moves in a base body (25). The nozzle tube is 200 mm long and has a tube diameter of 16 mm and a wall strength of 0.8 mm. The nozzle opening has a diameter of 6.3 mm. The base body is fixed in a holder (28) so that it can be adjusted in height.
