Treatment of acidic and metal-containing waste water involving addition of a basic solution or gas to bind the free acid, followed by separating into low-metal and high-metal content streams is such that: (i) the free acid is bonded by ammonia solution or gas; and (ii) the high metal content stream is fed to a regeneration plant where it is pyro-hydrolytically treated, especially by spray roasting. <??>Preferred Features: The pH is set to 2-8 (especially 3-5). The low-metal content stream is of greater volume than the high-metal content stream, with separation into low- and high-metal content streams being by (especially reverse) membrane separation or by evaporation to ≥ 50 (especially ≥ 90)%, or by a combination of the two separation processes. The evaporation is followed by filtering and the residue is collected, treated by an ion-exchange or membrane separation process, and recycled. |
