LIPOSOMAL FORMULATIONS AND RELATED METHODS

Novel liposomes have relatively high membrane phase-transition temperatures, and little or no residual organic solvent. They can be advantageously dried before use to produce proliposomes. Upon reconstitution and filling with 5-FU or other drugs, the resulting liposomes can carry an unusually high level of active drug, and exhibit especially good storage characteristics. Preferred topical creams and other formulations include at least 20 wt% liposomes, and no more than 0.75 wt%, 0.5 wt%, or even 0.25 wt% 5-FU.
