Production of defined recesses and hollow spaces in metals and alloys, preferably made from high temperature resistant alloys, comprises inserting a spacer into the casting mold to be filled with a metal melt. The spacer has hollow spaces into which the liquid embedding composition used in the manufacture of the casting mold flows via an opening. Preferred Features: A passage is formed in the spacer for improved anchoring and positioning. A pocket hole is used to anchor the spacer. The spacer is made from a ceramic or other high strength material.
