The filter composite comprises at least one top layer (2) made of an at least partially porous material with at least one edge area (3) and comprises at least one fibrous layer (4) made of a fibrous cloth. The filter composite is characterized in that the at least one top layer (2) forms an enclosure (31) that encloses the fibrous layer (4) so that the fibrous layer (4) is permanently arranged inside the at least one top layer (2). A filter composite (1) of the aforementioned type makes it possible to produce a filter body that can be used, in particular, for purifying exhaust gases of mobile internal combustion engines.
