PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry a continuous form appropriately using a tractor 19. SOLUTION: A sheet carrying mechanism comprises at least one drive roller 8a, 10a and at least one driven roller 8b, 10b being pressed against the drive roller 8a, 10a with a specified force and disposed, respectively, on the upstream side and the downstream side of a print gap in the carrying direction of sheet. The printer comprises mechanisms 20 and 21 for switching the operation between a first mode where the driven rollers 8b and 10b on the upstream side and downstream side are used while being pressed against the drive roller 8a and 10b, and a second mode where the driven roller 10b on the upstream side is separated from the drive roller 10a when a tractor 19 is used and the driven roller 8b on the downstream side is used while reducing the pressing force thereof against the drive roller 8a.
