PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which can reduce a shock applied to a 2nd image read means when a document feed means is opened and closed and to provide an image reader which makes it easy to mount a document on a read part while improving the opening/closing operability of the document feed means as an image reader which has a 2nd image read means for reading the reverse side of a document in a document feed means. SOLUTION: The image reader is characterized in that it is equipped with a line sensor 11 which reads documents on original platens 2 and 3, a document feeder 200 which carries documents onto the original platen 2, a hinge part 21 which supports the document feeder 200 rotatably on a device main body 100, and a contact type image sensor 20 which is provided to the document feeder 200 and reads the reverse side of the document, is characterized in that the hinge part 21 is provided having its axis X of rotation at right angles to the array direction of the line sensor 11. Ando also, the contact type image sensor 20 is fitted to the document feeder 200 across elastic bodies 33 and 35.
