PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a press forming apparatus capable of accommodating for a change in a small clearance, reducing its manufacturing cost, improving a workability in changing a position and eliminating a stock space. SOLUTION: There is provided a press forming apparatus in which a pilot pin 11 fixed to an upper die is fitted into a pilot hole of a workpiece so as to restrict a displacement of the workpiece when the workpiece is bent and formed. The pilot pin 11 is movably supported at the upper die. One of the upper die and the pilot pin 11 is provided with a check notch 33. The other of them is provided with an extremity end spherical surface fitted to the check notch 33. There is provided a check ball 53 capable of being retracted in a direction spaced apart from the check notch 33 against a biasing force. There are provided a plurality of check notches 33 arranged at the upper die in correspondence with the positions of the pilot holes for every type of workpieces.
