PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a TIG arc welding apparatus that can surely avoid an interference between a welding torch and a base material in performing the tracer control of the welding torch. SOLUTION: A laser beam emitted from a light emitting unit is guided to the tip of a photoelectric sensor head 6, which is integrally attached to the welding torch with optical fibers 13a, 13b. The beam, through light paths LPa, LPb, is then reflected on a mirror 18 installed slightly above a tungsten electrode, guided to photodetecting units 15a, 15b through the optical fibers 13a, 13b by way of light guiding holes 19 (a, b), and converted into light receiving signals. As a result, with the light receiving signals switched from on to off, an angle corrective axial unit is moved rotatably around the tip end of the tungsten electrode, so that the welding torch is returned to an original correct posture.
