PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a photographing in which a shutter chance is surely seized by shortening the time taken until attaining a photographable state from supplying power. SOLUTION: An initialization driving (extension driving for pulling out a collapsible lens 101 from a housing position to an image pickup position and the positional reference securing operation of a lens driving mechanism 102 required for adjusting the operation to adjust a focusing position or a focal distance) of a lens is automatically performed in response to power supply when the power is supplied in an ordinary mode, and the initialization driving of the lens when the power is supplied is inhibited from being performed by switching a photographing mode from the ordinary mode to a quick photographing mode. Thus, just by previously setting a camera in the quick photographing mode at need, the image pickup (exposure) is immediately started (started to accept release) when the power is supplied.
