PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily and efficiently removing a zirconium complex which remains in a reaction product after a synthetic reaction using the zirconium complex as a catalyst. SOLUTION: In the method for easily and efficiently removing the chelate complex of zirconium which remains in the reaction product, after a compound soluble in a water-insoluble organic solvent is synthesized by the reaction using the chelate complex of zirconium as the catalyst, a solution of the reaction product in the water-insoluble organic solvent is washed with an aqueous solution containing a weak acid salt of an alkali metal.
