PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a photocatalyst material showing continuously high catalytic activity and a photocatalyst coating agent prepared by using the photocatalyst. SOLUTION: The photocatalyst material contains titanium oxide as the main component and metal compounds except for titanium oxide present on a part of the surface of the titanium oxide. The metal compounds are, for example, single oxides of metals such as zirconium, hafnium, vanadium, niobium, tantalum, molybdenum, tungsten, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, aluminum, gallium, indium and tin, or sodium oxide, potassium oxide, magnesium oxide, calcium oxide, barium oxide, lanthanum oxide, cerium oxide, zinc oxide, sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, calcium carbonate, barium carbonate, lanthanum carbonate, cerium carbonate or zinc carbonate.
