PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multilayered electroluminescent device having high luminance. SOLUTION: This multilayered electroluminescent device comprises a cathode, an anode, a light emitting layer, and a layer disposed between the cathode and the anode containing a naphthalene compound represented by the following formula (1). In this formula, m is 0, 1 or 2, R<a> is an independently selected substituent and each n is independently 0 to 3, each Ar<a> is an independently selected aromatic group, and each Ar<b> is an independently selected carbcyclic aromatic group. However, two substituents may join to form a ring.
