PURPOSE: A method and a system for updating voice unit model data are provided to download voice unit model data a user desires from an external voice unit model database to update voice unit model data in a voice recognition and synthesizing system. CONSTITUTION: Information about a list of voice unit models provided by an external voice unit model database is received from the voice unit model database. The information about the list is displayed and provided to a user(103). The user inputs selection information for selecting voice unit model data to be downloaded from the list of voice unit models provided by the voice unit model database(104). Voice unit model data selected according to the selection information is downloaded from the voice unit model database and stored(105).
