PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for deciding the motion type of an image using the motion type of a key frame are provided to improve accuracy of motion type using a key frame having high reliability of motion information. CONSTITUTION: Digital video data is extracted from motion picture data. A motion vector of the extracted digital video data is generated using a motion estimation method. A motion vector bin(140) for deciding the motion type of the digital video data is constructed. The motion type of the digital video data is judged to be one of predetermined motion types using the motion vector bin. The motion types include zoom, stillness, horizontal motion, non-horizontal motion and fast motion. Motion type information corresponding to the judged motion type is transmitted to a display device. |
