PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set by simple procedures the optimum picture converting parameters corresponding to the kinds of scenes or films which are set in an image processor. SOLUTION: A method for setting image converting parameters has a step for acquiring every one of three primary colors target image data whose tones have been brought into optimum states; a step for creating based on the target image data a first cumulative histogram wherein the pixel numbers corresponding to its respective tones are accumulated from the tone of its low grade side; a step for acquiring every one of three primary colors an input picture data of a corrective object; a step for creating based on the input picture data of the corrective object a second cumulative histogram wherein the pixel numbers corresponding to its respective tones are accumulated from the tone of its low grade side; and a step for so performing every one of three primary colors the settings of the picture converting parameters that the respective tones of the second cumulative histogram are used as the input values for the settings, and the respective tones of the first cumulative histogram whose cumulative pixel numbers are nearly equal to the cumulative pixel numbers of the respective tones of the second cumulative histogram are used as the output values or the settings.
