PURPOSE: Provided is a method to compress and separate cans which compresses and separates the cans to recover as many empty cans as possible at the smallest volume so that it raises efficiency in recovering the empty cans. CONSTITUTION: The method to compress and separate the cans comprises the steps of: (i) allowing an access sensor in a projection part to separate the cans and extraneous matters; (ii) if the cans are separated, opening a switch sheet in the projection part to project the cans to a compression separation part; and (iii) allowing a compression sheet with an electromagnet to compress the cans and separating and releasing the cans according to materials.
