PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide color image forming device which is capable of achieving stable electrostatic charge, reducing the amount of ozone to be produced, shortening the size of the spacing between tandem image forming process units and reducing the size and cost of the device. SOLUTION: The outer diameter of image forming bodies 1 are 50 mm or below in diameter and ion generators 2 integrally constituted with constitution elements consisting of ion generating electrodes 12 and dielectric electrodes 13 formed across dielectric substances 15 in-between are used for the electrostatic charging devices of the respective process units 21. The above device is constituted to release corona ions from the ion generating electrodes 12 on a reference potential side by impressing a DC voltage 18 between the ion generating electrodes 12 and the reference potential and impressing an AC voltage 17 for driving between the ion generating electrodes 12 and the dielectric electrodes 13.
