PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make highly accurate gear shaping possible. SOLUTION: The machine tool used in this method is provided with a cutting tool which is removably mounted thereon and can move in the Z axis direction, a work table (4) which has a workpiece (23) mounted thereon and of which the rotational angle about a C axis parallel to the Z axis can be controlled, wherein the cutting tool and the workpiece (23) are relatively movable on a plane perpendicular to the Z axis. The gear shaping is carried out such that the workpiece (23) is fixed to a rotary arbor of the work table (4), the pinion cutter (42) is mounted so as no to rotate about the Z axis, the revolution of the workpiece (23) around the pinion cutter (42) by a relative circular interpolation motion is synchronized with the rotation of the work table (4) with a required ratio, and at the same time, the pinion cutter (42) reciprocates in the Z axis direction in synchronization with the synchronized motion between the revolution of the workpiece around the pinion cutter and the rotation of the workpiece table.
