PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pigment ink for ink jet having good glossiness and color reproducibility (transparency of an image) and excellent liquid resistance, an ink-jet cartridge using the same, a method for ink-jet image recording and an ink-jet recorded image. SOLUTION: This pigment ink for the ink jets comprises at least pigment particles, a hydrophilic solvent and water. In the pigment ink, at least one color contains >=20 number % of the pigment particles having <50 nm number- average primary particle diameter of the pigment particles and 1-3 needle shape ratio (maximum length/minimum width of the primary particles).
