PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dye usable in an optical recording medium especially fitted to the recording regeneration due to semiconductor laser with a short wavelength. SOLUTION: In the optical recording medium wherein a recording layer possible in the recording and/or regeneration of data due to laser is provided on a substrate, the recording layer contains a carbostyryl compound or a 1,8- naphthyridine compound represented by formula (1) (wherein, X is a nitrogen atom or C-R6 , R1 is an arbitrary substituent and R2 , R3 , R4 , R5 , R6 , R7 and R8 are each independently a hydrogen atom or an arbitrary substituent and two adjacent groups among R2 -R8 may be bonded to form a ring). |
