PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermally stable ferulic acid derivative while an excellent ultraviolet light absorbing power of the ferulic acid and its esters are maintained, and preparation method of the same. SOLUTION: The ferulic acid derivative is represented by general formula (1), [wherein, R<1> and R<2> are each independently a hydrogen atom, or selected from a 1-12 alkyl groups], and the ultraviolet light absorber containing the same as the effective ingredient.
