A face clamp method, comprising the steps of towing a draw bolt (24) to press−fit a collet pulling arrow (23) onto a tapered surface (21a) formed in a collet body (21) so as to increase the diameters of collet pieces in order to center the inner diameter part of a ring−shaped work (W), applying a hydraulic pressure to the right side chambers of pistons (32) in surface pressing cylinders (31) to swing retaining claws (36) to a clamp position to hold the work (W) in the clearance thereof from work patch parts (40) for face clamping, solely moving back the collet body (21) to an escape position by a draw pipe (22), invading a cutting tool from the front surface side of a face clamp chuck into the inner diameter surface of the work (W), and cutting the work (W) while moving the cutting tool to a bottom side, whereby, by using the collet chuck for the centering operation of the ring−shaped work, a centering can be efficiently and easily performed based on the inner diameter surface of the ring−shaped work.
