PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the early activation of a catalyst by carrying out an exhaust flux control, and save fuel consumption by properly setting up the finish timing of the activation. SOLUTION: The objective exhaust emission control device is provided with a catalyst 30 disposed at the exhaust system of an engine 1; a butterfly valve 42 installed in an exhaust pipe 20 of the downstream side of exhaust system, various sensors 15, 62, and 64 for detecting an exhaust flux, its pressure and its temperature; and an ECU 60 for controlling the operation of the butterfly valve 42 by calculating an index equivalent to the heat content added to the catalyst by the exhaust flux, pressure and temperature. |
