PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a waste gasifying melting furnace capable of stably operating by detecting a rack formed in a furnace promptly. SOLUTION: In this method for operating the waste gasifying melting furnace, furnace temperature above a waste piled layer in a melting furnace and furnace temperature below the waste piled layer are measured and the amount of the supply of the waste into the melting furnace is controlled on the basis of these measured values of the temperature.
