In a process to seal a defective coastal dyke with a curtain seal, two transverse trenches (DG1, DG2) are cut through the dyke to a suitable depth approx. e.g. 400 metres apart. A suitable small-bore tunnelling machine is presented to the sidewall of one trench, and a small-bore tunnel is prepared linking the two trenches. The small bore tunnel is subsequently enlarged to e.g. 45 cm, and a first rod (BK) made up in sections is inserted through the bore hole. A second rod is placed on the surface parallel to the first, the top and bottom rods being linked by a steel cable which is then progressively pulled backwards through the earth creating an elongated trench between the two transverse trenches. The elongated trench is simultaneously filled with concrete.
|
