METHOD FOR PRODUCING 5-HALOGENOINDOLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 5-halogenoindole which is industrially suitable for obtaining the 5-halogenoindole in a high yield from 2-(5- halogeno-2-nitrophenyl)-2-cyanoacetic acid that is easily obtained in a simple way. SOLUTION: The method of producing the 5-halogenoindole is characterized by including (A) a first step wherein the 2-(5-halogeno-2-nitrophenyl)-2- cyanoacetic acid is changed to 5-halogeno-2-nitrobenzylcyanide by decarboxylation, and (B) a second step wherein the 5-halogeno-2- nitrobenzylcyanide is reduced under reducing conditions.
