PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device excellent in uniformity of the gap between substrates. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device 1, a color filter layer 18 provided with color areas 15a-15c having absorption wavelength regions different from each other and spacers 17a-17c positioned between two color areas adjacent to each other of the respective color areas 15a-15c are provided on a substrate 13. Each spacer 17a-17c has a structure wherein a lowermost layer 15a, an intermediate layer 15b and an uppermost layer 15c which are made of the same materials as those of color areas 15a-15c, respectively, are successively layered on the substrate 13 and the surface area S12 of the intermediate layer 15b of the spacer 17a, the surface area S23 of the intermediate layer 15b of the spacer 17b and the surface area S31 of the intermediate layer 15b of the spacer 17c satisfy at least one relation of the relations shown by inequalities of S12 <S23 , S12 <S31 and S31 <S23 . |
