<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a required valve lifting and valve timing at all times by properly and simultaneously driving and controlling both first and second variable mechanisms. SOLUTION: In the case where it is judged that the control deviation of a second variable mechanism 2 is out of an acceptable value (step 21), and the control deviation of a first variable mechanism 1 is not within an acceptable value range (step 24); both first and second oil passages are opened, and valve lifting and valve timing are controlled by both variable mechanisms (step 25). On the other hand, in the case it is judged that the deviation of the mechanism 1 is within the acceptable value range (step 24), the drive of the first variable mechanism side is stopped, and the valve timing is controlled by supplying the entire hydraulic pressure to the second mechanism side (step 26). When it is judged that the deviation of the mechanism 1 is out of the acceptable value (step 22), the drive of the mechanism 2 is stopped and at the same time, the valve lifting is controlled by supplying the entire hydraulic pressure to the first mechanism side.</p> |
