Display driver circuitry for electro-optic displays, in particular active matrix displays using organic light emitting diodes. The circuitry comprises a driver 510 to drive an electro-optic display element 512 in accordance with a drive voltage, a photosensitive device 516 optically coupled to the electro-optic display element 512 to pass a current dependent upon illumination reaching photosensitive device 516, and a control circuit having a control line 415 coupled to the driver 510 to control the brightness of the electro-optic display element 512 and having a current sense input coupled to the photosensitive device 516, a current set line 508 for coupling to a reference current generator 524, and a display element select line 506 to, when active, cause the control circuit to drive the electro-optic display element 512 in accordance with the current set by the reference current generator 524. The circuit provides improved control of an electro-display element such as an organic LED pixel, by using optical feedback to allow the output of the electro-optic element to be directly controlled by a reference current flowing in current set line 508. |
