The procedure and plant for extraction of lanolin from wool involves passing a carbon dioxide extraction mixture or a short chain hydrocarbon at high pressure and between 5 and 40 per cent by weight of a polar consolvent, preferably acetone or ethanol, through the wool compressed to an apparent density between 106 and 460 kg/m3 within an extraction chamber. A dissolution of extracted lanolin is formed in the extraction mixture. Separation of the lanolin from the extraction mixture in a first separator is effected and the gas and consolvent are recirculated to the extraction chamber. The extraction mixture is evaporated in an evaporator and the separated gas and extraction mixture are expanded and condensed in an expander-condensor. The consolvent or the extraction mixture is recirculated and the extraction mixture is compressed. Extraction is effected at a pressure between 70 and 500 bar and at a temperature between 30 and 80 degrees Celsius.
